Focus Initiative

Mother of 18 year old male diagnosed initially with Attention Deficit Disorder in Grade 2.  Reassessed by hospital psychiatrist, and school board psychologist in Grade 6/7 as Non-Verbal Learning Disorder.  Son left high school in February 2007, had worked nights for several months for local newspaper publisher as laborer.  Son lacks focus, has difficulty understanding appropriate / acceptable response to social issues, conflict.  Has displayed violent tendencies, is 'brilliant', extreme interest in computer technology.  Desire to obtain high school diploma / equivalency, but again lacks focus.  Parents have made repeated requests for intervention by mental health professionals, as son has self-identified as needing guidance in establishing appropriate responses to social cues, setting goals and establishing steps-to-take.
