Aspeger's Syndrome As A Teacher In The General Education Classroom
Presenter: Jacquelyn Tomlinson, MA
Director of Services and Autism Specialist, FOCUS Initiative
Students with social disabilities (i.e Asperger's Syndrome/High

more and more each year. General education teachers are provided
with very little (if any) education on the unique needs of these
students. This workshop will provide an understanding of AS in the
general education classroom. Teachers will leave with a basic
understanding of the disorder as well as practical, easy-to-implement
teaching strategies. Participants will be provided handouts and numerous
examples of actual situations involving students with AS in the general
education setting. Participants are encouraged to ask questions
regarding specific students with AS.

A New Journey: Post-Secondary Education for Students
with Asperger's Syndrome
Presenters: James Williams
Motivational Speaker, College Student with Asperger's
Jacquelyn Tomlinson, MA
Director of Services and Autism Specialist, FOCUS Initiative
This interactive presentation will provide a first hand account of an
individual with Asperger's Syndrome who is advancing through the
post-secondary education environment. James will discuss which
strategies and resources have and have not been successful in his life
and how a family and their school can adequately prepare for the
difficult challenge ahead. This session will demonstrate that any child
with Asperger's Syndrome, who is provided with the appropriate social
and educational interventions, can be fully independent and successful
in their post-secondary life. Participants are encouraged to ask
questions regarding any aspect of James' educational, social, or daily
life. This training is beneficial for all teachers and parents who
strive to enable students with Asperger's to lead happy, fulfilling
lives.
Light breakfast provided.
