Frequently Asked Questions
Here are some questions that are often asked of our staff. If you have other questions that are not answered here, please feel free to Contact the FOCUS staff by calling 281-240-0663.
Where are you located?
Does my child need a certain diagnosis to qualify for your services?
At Focus Initiative we work with individuals who have social challenges. They may have a diagnosis of Asperger's Syndrome, Tourette's Syndrome, Attention Deficit Disorder, PDD, Learning Disorder, or no diagnosis at all.
Why do I/my child need a class to learn social and life skills?
Research shows that many individuals with social deficits do not intuitively "pick-up" on social and real world skills like other people may. These skills can be learned however, just as we learn math or reading.
Focus Initiative does not accept insurance. Our services are considered educational rather than medical. Therefore, insurance companies will not cover the services; however, many of our services have been priced at co-pay rates to compensate for this lack of coverage.
Flexible savings accounts (FSA) usually cover "specialized education due to a medical condition" and will therefore cover our services.
How much do your services cost?
Prices vary depending on the services needed. Individual services have prices ranging from $75-$100 per hour. Group services usually run about $55 per hour. Diagnostic assessments for our academy or FOPI programs are $180. The academy tuition is $15,000 per year.
What forms of payment do you accept and when is it due?
We accept cash, checks, MasterCard, Visa, Discover and American Express payments. Due dates vary depending on the type of service.
What is the typical schedule of your groups?
Our after school social understanding groups run on a semester basis much like a college schedule; however, we enroll students throughout the semester.
What will my school think if I bring you to the ARD/IEP meeting?
Our school services are more consultative and less confrontation. We are usually welcomed at ARD/IEP meetings because we are clearly there to help the student receive an appropriate education (rather than yell at the staff members for not doing the best job ever).
How do I enroll my child in a group or the academy?
The first step is to schedule a complimentary screening by calling 281-240-0663 or emailing admin@asdfocus.com.
