FOCUS
Initiative is a consulting firm that offers individuals with social deficits,
such as Autism, Asperger’s Syndrome and ADHD the tools to better navigate the real
world. Through social coaching sessions, student advocacy services, educational
consultations, and conference presentations, FOCUS Initiative can help both
private clients and public schools/organizations develop the strategies and
skills necessary to understand and manage these unique conditions.
More Information
FOCUS Initiative was
established in 1999 to help improve the social understanding and life success of
children, teens and adults with autism spectrum disorders and other social cognitive
deficits. These include:
Asperger's Syndrome
Non-verbal Learning Disorder
Pervasive Developmental Disorder-NOS
(PDD-NOS)
ADHD
We
specialize in training individuals with social understanding difficulties through
innovative programs tailored to meet their unique and special needs. We
offer weekly social understanding and life preparation classes for groups of
students from 5 years old through young adulthood. For those children who
are not yet ready for participation in a group class, we provide one-on-one
training designed to address specific areas of concern.
We also offer consultation
services to parents of children with autism spectrum disorders and other
social-cognitive deficits to assist them in
planning and implementing appropriate educational programs,
school-based and private interventions. We provide guidance in
understanding and navigating the special education system and are available to
attend ARD/IEP meetings at the parents' request.
School consultations and
teacher trainings are also an important aspect of our business. We
contract with several Houston-area school districts to provide staff
in-services, case-by-case consultations and large group trainings on a variety
of topics related to autism spectrum disorders.
Our 10-member staff includes professional educators with extensive training,
advanced degrees and specializations and a passion for working with children and
adults with autism spectrum
disorders and other related difficulties.
